When is the last time we purchased a newspaper?
For most people, it’s been a while.
Because we no longer seek out information the way our grandparents did, today’s version of the classified ad looks a little different.
Can we build our business with classified ads?
Absolutely.
What is the secret?
Perseverance and consistency.
Now that we’ve scared off the amateurs with those twos words, let’s have a heart to heart as professionals.
Classified ads are an instant win for everyone.
Why?
Because there is zero learning curve.
A new member can generate their very first lead within 15 minutes of getting started.
The quicker a new person gets a result, the longer they stick around.
Gone are the days going through 90 days of training.
Yes, we must help our new people succeed faster.

So what works?
There are three platforms that have stood the test of time.
These three platforms work well on a global level, and most of our new people already know how to use them.
Craigslist
Craigslist has been around since 1995 and gets over 50 billion (with a B) page views per month.
Using craigslist to build our network marketing business can be a great way to start generating leads that are local.
Generating leads for our MLM on craigslist isn’t difficult.
But what do we say in our ad?
70% of your leads will come within the first week of posting your ad.
Once we have calls rolling in, we will want them to leave us a voicemail so we can listen through and call back the ones who sound like they’d be a good fit for what we’re building.
PRO TIP: You’re not required to call back anyone. You will be able to disqualify most tire kickers and low-interest leads based on how they leave a voicemail.
Kajiji
For our Canadian brothers and sisters, kajiji is an awesome alternative to using craigslist.
Formed in 2005, kajiji is quite easily one of the go to sites in Canada.
There are students of mine who have been generating daily leads for their network marketing business for many years.
But what about the “quality” of prospect?
Using craigslist, kajiji or our third option for Aussies and UK (which I’m about to share with you in a moment) is pretty straightforward.
The quality of lead can be determined by the pre-qualifications you put in your ad.
More requirements = higher lead quality = less leads.
Minimal requirements = lower quality = more leads.
For example, if we say something along the lines of “Make an extra $500 a week, no experience required, we’ll train you.”, we’re probably going to get everyone and their Grandmother calling us and leaving a voicemail.
If we say “Make $500 a week, must have a GED, men only, phone experience preferred.”, we will generate fewer leads but our lead quality will go up.
Here is what to say in your kajiji ad.
Gumtree
For team members in the UK or Australia, gumtree is a great starting point for placing classified ads. You can use gumtree to build your mlm and say basically the same thing you would for a craigslist ad.
The key to making craigslist, kajiji or gumtree work for generating network marketing leads is knowing who you are looking for.
You’re not looking for the deadbeat guy who’s out of work and looking for a job, but rather the professional who is looking to supplement their income or start a plan B without having to pick up another full time gig.
On average, you’ll find that about 30% of people you call will fall into the tire-kicker or category and that’s fine. Be polite and get off the phone as quick as possible.
About 5-10% of people you call back will be a good candidate for your products or business, and that’s who you should be looking to spend your time in conversation with.
A gameplan
Depending on where you are posting and where you are located, you can expect to spend about 50 cents to 65 cents per lead.
That is a pretty great trade off.
Simply multiply the amount of leads you want to be generating daily by 50 cents and you’ll know how many ads you need to be placing a week.
Set aside a chunk of time to call them back and that’s it!
