What is a drop card?


Ever seen one of these little guys?

Meet the “drop card”.

Drop cards have been around for years, however the idea of using drop cards to build your network marketing business locally is just a little over a decade old.

Sometimes called “sizzle cards”, they look like hundred dollar bills that we drop everywhere we go.

Drop cards and are one of the easiest ways for new people to generate leads because it requires zero extra work – we simply drop them around during our day-to-day activities.


Do drop cards work well?

Imagine we go through the drive through for coffee.

After we pay the cashier we hand her a $100 bill drop card and say “Could you give this to your manager please?”

Could we do that?

Of course.

And guess what – that manager is probably underpaid!

After pumping gas, we slip a $100 bill drop card into the card reader at the gas station.

We walk into the department store and leave a couple in the drawer of a night stand.

We walk through a sporting event or anywhere there’s a crowd of people and drop a few bills along the walking path.

While hiking in the woods or along the river we leave a bill on every resting bench.

Could we do that?

Easily.

What about our new team members?

Absolutely.

Hmm.

Maybe these drop card things could help us grow our business without having to do a whole lot of extra “work”.

But what about the numbers?

Let’s do the math.

How many new customers would we need to enroll to break even on the front end when we’re using drop cards to build our business?

Let’s start with 1000 drop cards.

Let’s say that we earn about $50 on the front end every time someone decides to join our business and become a customer.

Front end commissions are nice, but everyone knows that it is the back end residual income that we are searching for.

Regardless, if we wanted to break even on the front end, we would need to enroll only about 2 people per 1000 cards dropped.

Only 2 people per thousand.

Now, we don’t know how to drop 1000 cards yet, but we can learn.

We learned how to walk.

We learned how to ride a bike.

And we can certainly learn a system for getting 1000 drop cards out to grow our network marketing business.

And, if we enroll only 2 customers per thousand we will break even on the front end.

I’ve had some organizations report as high as 5, 10 or even 21 new customers per thousand cards dropped.

Now, imagine what would happen if we taught our team to do this as well.

Exciting!


Where should we buy our drop cards?

You know, we get what we pay for.

Not all drop cards are created equal.

We want drop cards that look realistic.

And we want the least expensive version.

So where do we buy drop cards specifically for network marketing?

Let’s use Drop Cards for Network Marketers.

They’re a great company.

They’ve been around for over a decade.

Their prices are reasonable.

And the quality is perfect.


What should we say on them?

People are busier than ever.

Sometimes less is more.

We want to be concise and calculated when we design our drop cards.

In the Drop Cards for Network Marketers editor, let’s start with a catchy header.

Let’s say something like this:

We’ll tell people what this is about without giving away too many details just yet.

PRO TIP: Let’s never reveal our company’s name in the drop cards or mention anything about network marketing. People will learn this information when they call and request it.

Next, let’s offer a little information about the position we are looking to fill:

Let’s stay realistic.

Giving them a couple options is good.

Next, we’ll let them know that they can call 24/7.

Adding in this little part is very important.

If someone knows that they will be listening to a recording and don’t have to talk to a real person, they will be more inclined to call right away.

And finally, we’ll click on the “add text” button and enter our recorded voicemail number.

PRO TIP: Let’s never give out our personal phone number. We don’t want people calling us at all hours of the night. Let’s always send our leads to a recorded voicemail box.

We’ve learned about drop cards.

We know where to get them.

We’ve learned how to design them.

Now, let’s find out where to “drop” them.


Where should we drop them?

So where should we drop the cards?

Where are the best locations?

The short answer: everywhere.

We’ll learn some specifics soon, however the short answer is that you can drop them almost anywhere because if someone isn’t interested, they’ll either drop for someone else or slip it in their pocket so they can tell their friends.

We’ve hear of posts going viral.

With drop cards, we can go viral locally.

So where do we drop ’em?

Here’s where we can start:

  • The ground – yes, we can even drop them on the ground in busy places as long as we don’t leave a trail of “breadcrumbs” to come find us.
  • Planes – how about our seat pocket, the overhead bins or lavatory.
  • Bookstores/libraries – let’s leave them in books that sharp people would read.
  • Coffee shops – let’s try the condiment counter or along with a good tip.
  • Waiting rooms – let’s slip them in a couple magazines.
  • Toll booths – we’ll pay for the guy behind us, and ask the attendant to give him our drop card.
  • Movie theater – let’s drop one on our way back from the bathroom.
  • Gas stations – that card reader looks hungry.
  • Restaurants – let’s slide our waiter’s tip in between a drop card.
  • College campuses – lot’s of sharp people here who want to do well in life.

Those are some of my favorites.

We’ll come up with more as time goes on.

We can get creative and have fun with this.


How many drop cards should I get out daily?

The short answer?

The best you can do is the best you can do.

We’ll start with a thousand drop cards.

The rest is up to us.

We can pass out 10 a day.

We can pass out 100 a day.

As our team grows, we can collectively do more.

And we can teach them to do the same.

Yes, drop cards are an easy way to build our business locally.
